During the forced downtime of the pandemic our 2nd horn Neil Kimel and his wife mezzo-soprano Susan Platts embarked on a baking journey together, resulting in a dessert cookbook - Aria Ready For Dessert? A Musician Takes Center Stage in the Kitchen. Inspired by Susan's British roots and world travels, this collection of recipes ranges from classics like sticky toffee pudding to original creations like Mahler Würfel. For anyone who knows Neil and Susan, creating a confection with Mahler's name on it should come as no surprise. One featured recipe is, of course, an opera cake, and like many great operas, the preparation time is lengthy, but the end result is worth it. For an extra bit of fun, each recipe is paired with a piece of classical music. For more information, go to bakingbitsandbobs.com. Now get your apron on and get baking!
