Our maiden voyage with Shoreline Sightseeing in June was a wonderful success despite the unpredictable Chicago weather. The rain stopped just in time for departure and the sun peeked out from behind the clouds as we were passing by the Civic Opera House. Coincidence? Perhaps, but it was a very special moment for both the performers and audience. Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra members performed famous operatic arias in small chamber ensembles: a brass quintet, a woodwind quintet, and a string quartet. Our host, WFMT’s effervescent Maggie Clennon Reberg, helped steer the (musical) ship!
Please join us as we set sail again on August 5th at 7:30 PM with a slightly different program of chamber ensembles from the orchestra with our very own Frank Babbitt, violist, as the engaging host for the evening. In addition to your favorite arias, we are very excited to share that the luminous mezzo soprano, Susan Platts, will be joining the string quartet for a performance of Samuel Barber’s very moving “Dover Beach”.

The program will last approximately 45-50 minutes with the rest of the time set aside for the performers to mingle with the audience. We’d love to see you on board for this very special event!
Be sure to book ahead of time as this cruise is expected to sell out. Tickets include two drinks and light appetizers.
Fun Fact:
Mezzo-soprano Susan Platts is married to our second horn player, Neil Kimel…and Frank Babbitt is married to cellist Cornelia Babbitt, who will be joining us as a guest artist with the string quartet. Perhaps we should call it “The Love Boat”…!
