On October 11, Chicago Lyric Opera musicians joined members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to receive a 2019 Bold Worker Justice Award from Chicago’s Grassroots Collaborative at the 2019 Peoples Gala. The Grassroots Collaborative, a group of community and labor organizers, wanted to honor labor leaders who have led strikes over the past year to improve their working conditions. We were proud to share the stage with other awardees, including members of hotel, teacher and healthcare worker unions, many of whom joined us last October on our picket line.
