For many summers I have traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to participate in the Grand Teton Music Festival (gtmf.org) . It is a music festival featuring a large symphonic orchestra in programs each weekend. Musicians from orchestras around the country travel to NW Wyoming to make music together in the shadows of the majestic Teton Mountain Range.
It is a part of each summer that I look forward to throughout the year.
In the viola section, which varies week to week, you may find members of the Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago, Houston, Alabama and Oregon Symphonies.
The music director is Donald Runnicles, the world renowned maestro and current chief conductor at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. This Summer will feature several extraordinary soloists including violinist James Ehnes and cellist Alisa Weilerstein. The festival runs 7 weeks from early July to mid August and also features a free Tuesday "Inside the Music" series and Thursday evening chamber music series in Walk Festival Hall.
